Clean Dishes, Calm Home: Choosing a Safer Dish Soap for Babies & Pets

Making your home a truly clean space looks different for everyone. What works beautifully for one household may not feel right for another, and that’s okay.

In our home, we’ve been slowly upgrading the everyday products we use to reduce unnecessary chemical exposure while still choosing options that actually work. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s balance. Products that are functional, effective, and gentler for long-term use.

Our choices have to consider all of us. The humans, the baby who will soon be here, and the cats and dog we welcomed into our lives. Little ones on two feet and four.

Because of that, “clean” for us means as natural as reasonably possible, without sacrificing the ability to truly clean our home.

Why Dish Soap Became a Priority

Dish soap was one of my top concerns, and for good reason.

Every plate, cup, bottle, and utensil we use is washed with it. Our home also has an older dishwasher that doesn’t always rinse thoroughly, which means soap residue can linger. I started noticing a cloudy film or powdery residue on our dishes, especially when using conventional soaps or dishwashing pods.

When hand-washing, I also noticed how long some liquid soaps took to rinse away. I would rinse and rinse, still seeing bubbles cling to the surface of cups and bowls.

That wasn’t something I could ignore anymore.

How I Chose These Dish Soaps

Like many parents-to-be (and pet parents), I went down the research rabbit hole. I read reviews, compared ingredient lists, cross-checked safety databases, and ran unfamiliar ingredients through Google and ChatGPT.

After all that research, I landed on two dish soaps that genuinely work for our household, and I actually rotate between them depending on our needs.

One is exceptionally natural, though less sudsy.
The other still prioritizes safety, but offers a more familiar cleaning experience.

Both are a huge upgrade from traditional dish soaps.

My All-Star Pick: Fuwa3e Enzyme Natural Dish Soap (Pineapple Scent)

This is the dish soap that truly changed how I think about cleaning.

Fuwa3e uses natural enzymes derived from fermented pineapple peels as its main cleaning agent. These enzymes break down grease effectively without relying on harsh surfactants or irritating fragrances.

Despite being incredibly gentle, it works. It cuts through grease, removes food residue, and rinses clean without leaving that slippery, soapy feeling behind.

I used this soap for months and felt completely comfortable letting my family eat and drink from dishes washed with it. My routine is to hand-wash with Fuwa3e to remove grease and debris, then run items through a hot steam cycle in the dishwasher.

One important note:

No, it doesn’t produce big fluffy suds. But it does clean. And for me, effectiveness and health matter far more than bubbles.

This soap is ideal if you:

  • Want the cleanest ingredient profile possible

  • Have babies or pets in the home

  • Are sensitive to fragrances

  • Care more about function than foam

Strong Runner-Up: ATTITUDE Dish Soap (Olive & Coriander)

This is my go-to when I want something that feels a little more traditional while still being a massive improvement over conventional brands.

ATTITUDE Dish Soap is EWG-verified, which already places it far above most mainstream dish soaps. While it doesn’t meet the same ultra-minimal standard as Fuwa3e, it offers excellent cleaning power and noticeably more sudsing, something many people prefer.

The Olive & Coriander scent is subtle and low-level, making it a safer option for households with cats and dogs.

I’m especially cautious with dish soaps and laundry products because pet dishes and bedding are washed right alongside everything else.

A Note on Essential Oils & Pet Safety

I intentionally avoid dish soaps and laundry products that rely heavily on essential oils. Animals process these compounds very differently than humans, and repeated exposure can be harmful over time.

Essential oils to avoid around pets include:

  • Tea Tree (Melaleuca)

  • Eucalyptus

  • Pennyroyal

  • Wintergreen

  • Clove

  • Cinnamon (especially bark)

  • Thyme

  • Oregano

Other oils to use caution with:

  • Lemon

  • Orange (sweet & bitter)

  • Grapefruit

  • Lime

  • Bergamot

  • Mandarin / Tangerine

Many of these oils are considered safe for adult humans, but at Hearth & Harmony, we choose to err on the side of caution for our furry family members.

Final Thoughts

Whichever dish soap you choose, both of these options have become staples in our home. They’ve given me peace of mind, reduced unnecessary chemical exposure, and made everyday cleaning feel more intentional.

A clean home isn’t about chasing perfection, it’s about choosing what supports your family best.

A Note on Allergies & Sensitivities

Both of the dish soaps I use are formulated to be gentler than traditional dishwashing liquids, which was an important factor for our household.

The Fuwa3e Enzyme Natural Dish Soap relies on plant-derived enzymes from fermented pineapple peels rather than harsh detergents. Because of its minimal ingredient list and lack of synthetic fragrances, I personally find it very non-irritating during regular use.

The ATTITUDE Olive & Coriander Dish Soap is EWG Verified™ and made without known high-concern ingredients such as sulfates, parabens, or synthetic dyes. While it does contain fragrance components for scent, these are used at low levels and are far milder than what’s found in most conventional dish soaps.

That said, sensitivities can vary widely from person to person.

If you or someone in your household has:

  • Known skin allergies

  • Eczema or contact dermatitis

  • Fragrance sensitivities

  • Food-related sensitivities (such as pineapple or botanical extracts)

…it’s always wise to review the ingredient list carefully and consider a small patch test when introducing a new product.

I can only speak to our experience, but both of these soaps have been well tolerated in our home and feel like a thoughtful step toward safer, more mindful cleaning.
