Why I Chose the Baby Delight Beside Me™ Dreamer Bassinet as a First-Time Mom

When I was pregnant with my first baby, one of the hardest things to figure out was where he would sleep.

I loved the idea of having my baby close to me at night and honestly would have loved to co-sleep, but the idea felt too daunting for me personally. I wanted something that would let me keep my baby nearby while still giving me peace of mind.

As I started researching, I kept seeing bedside bassinets everywhere. The Baby Delight Beside Me Dreamer Bassinet stood out to me because it had over 5,000 reviews with a 4.6-star rating, and I figured with that many happy parents, how wrong could I go?

For our family, it turned out to be a great fit.

What I Loved About This Bassinet

One of the first things I noticed was how breathable it felt. The mesh sides surround almost the entire sleeping area, allowing plenty of airflow while still letting me easily see my baby throughout the night.

I especially loved being able to lower the bedside wall and simply glance over whenever I wanted to check on him. As a new mom, that reassurance was priceless. Instead of sitting up or getting out of bed to check on him, I could easily see him right beside me. During those early newborn weeks, that closeness was one of my favorite things about this bassinet.

The Height Adjustment Was Better Than I Expected

One feature that ended up being far more important than I expected was the height adjustment.

The Baby Delight Beside Me Dreamer offers 8 different height settings and is designed to fit adult mattress heights from 22.5" to 30.5".

When Endy was born, our bed setup was unusually tall. We were sleeping on a California King mattress with a thick pillow top, sitting on top of a waterbed pedestal that we had inherited from my parents, and on top of a bed frame with plenty of storage room beneath.

I literally had to climb into my bed.

Looking at the bassinet online, I honestly wasn't sure it would be tall enough. To my surprise, it fit perfectly beside our bed.

Then a few months later, we moved and left our old bed behind. We replaced it with a low-profile Avocado bed frame and a Tempur-Pedic mattress. I didn't even think about the bassinet when I made my overly enthusiastic bed purchase. It wasn't until everything was assembled that I realized how much lower our new setup was.

Now I was leaning down quite a bit just to get into bed.

Thankfully, the bassinet adjusted just as easily to our new setup and still fit perfectly beside the bed. Going from an extremely tall setup to a much lower one really showed me how useful those eight height settings are. No matter which bed we had, I was able to line the bedside wall up properly and keep Endy close throughout the night.

As someone who has now used it with two completely different bed heights, I genuinely appreciated having so many adjustment options.

Lightweight Yet Sturdy

As a petite mom running on newborn sleep, I also appreciated how lightweight this bassinet is.

It was easy for me to move when needed and never felt cumbersome, yet it was sturdy enough that I always felt completely safe using it.

My partner even leaned on it every morning to kiss our son.

That combination of lightweight and sturdy isn't always easy to find, but Baby Delight managed it well.

How It Held Up With a Wiggly Baby (and Curious Cats)

Although only the fabric portions and rim are made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton, I actually came to appreciate the polyester mesh for its durability.

We did our best to keep our cats away from the bassinet, but any cat owner knows that's easier said than done. My cats couldn't resist checking it out a few times, yet the mesh made it all the way through our bassinet stage without a single snag.

The real durability test, however, was Endy.

He absolutely loves to scoot, wiggle, and kick while he sleeps. Many mornings I would wake up to find him completely sideways in the bassinet. Sometimes he would be pressed gently against the mesh, and other times he'd be kicking it during excited wiggles or moments of gassy frustration.

The mesh never stretched out, sagged, or lost its shape. It remained gentle against him while still feeling incredibly secure. Even when he ended up sideways, against both sides, as he grew, I never worried about him. The mesh was soft enough that it didn't seem to bother him, while still being strong enough that I felt completely confident using it.

A Quick Note About Assembly

Michael had this bassinet put together pretty quickly.

The only part that gave us trouble was the height adjustment knobs. Following the instructions, we both remember looking at them and thinking, There is no way these go on like that.

We tried and tried to get them on, convinced we were either misunderstanding the directions or about to break something.

Finally, I looked it up on YouTube and watched someone assemble the bassinet. It turned out we simply needed to push a little harder than we were comfortable with. Not forcefully, just with a bit more confidence. We were being overly cautious because we didn't want to damage a brand-new baby product.

Once we realized that, the pieces clicked right into place and the rest of the assembly was straightforward.

Final Thoughts

Looking back, the Baby Delight Beside Me Dreamer gave us exactly what we were hoping for during those early months: a safe, comfortable place for our baby to sleep close by while still giving us our own sleep space.

Between the breathable mesh sides, the impressive height range, the lightweight but sturdy design, and the convenience of being able to glance over and see Endy throughout the night, it ended up being one of the baby purchases I felt most confident about.

Although the weight limit would have allowed us to continue using it longer, we're actually transitioning to a crib now because of Endy's very active sleeping habits. He loves to scoot, wiggle, and somehow rotate himself into entirely new positions while he sleeps, and as a tall baby, he's ready for a little more room to spread out.

Our DaVinci Colby Low-Profile Crib is currently on the way, and I'll be sharing our experience with that once we've had some time to test it.
