The Natural Loofah That Replaced My Plastic Shower Pouf
For as long as I can remember, I've always used those cheap plastic poofy shower scrubbers you can buy just about anywhere. I never really questioned them because that's just...what everyone seemed to use.
As we've slowly been replacing more plastic around our home, I started looking at all the little everyday things we use too, and so we decided to try the MAYAMOON Natural Egyptian Loofah Sponge.
I honestly wasn't expecting to have much of an opinion on a loofah, but I ended up loving it.
The first thing I noticed was how much bigger it was. It covers more of your body, and I love the way it feels. It's definitely firmer than a plastic pouf at first, but once it's wet and you've used it for a little while, it softens up. Since they're real plants, every one is a little different. Some have been softer than others, but I just adjust how hard I scrub.
One of my favorite parts is using it with my Aleppo soap bar. The loofah has this fresh, natural plant smell that mixes really nicely with the earthy scent of the soap. It sounds silly, but it honestly makes my shower feel a little cozier.
The only thing I had to learn was that you can't treat it like a plastic pouf. I used to just hang those up dripping wet and never thought twice about it. I did the same thing with one of these, and it eventually got moldy. Since then I just give it a good squeeze before hanging it up, and I haven't had another one mold.
I've also only ever found one little seed inside after buying several of these over the years. I just pulled it out and kept using it.
Another unexpected bonus is how much I like the way they look. Between this, my bamboo toothbrush, bamboo accessories, and Aleppo soap, my bathroom feels a lot warmer and more natural. I know that doesn't make the loofah work any better, but I really enjoy walking into a space that feels less plastic and a little more earthy.
I know it's just a loofah...but every time I grab it, it makes me happy.
One thing I do want to mention for any new moms is that I found it a little rough when I first started breastfeeding. Everything was so much more sensitive during those early weeks, so I just used a lighter touch until things settled down.
Compared to the plastic poufs I used for years, these simply last longer, don't unravel, and feel like a little upgrade every time I shower. Looking back, I don't think I'll ever go back to the plastic ones.
