Love to Dream Swaddle Review: The Sleep Solution That Finally Worked for Our Newborn

There are many things you prepare for before bringing your newborn baby home. You read the books, buy the gear, and stock up on diapers. Then there are the things you only learn once you're in the thick of it.

As first-time parents, one basic newborn need completely caught us off guard: swaddling.

Fresh home from the hospital, exhausted and running on very little sleep, it was time to put our newborn down for the night. The nurses had shown us how to wrap him up like a little burrito and had kindly sent us home with a few receiving blankets. But trying to master swaddling while freshly postpartum was not ideal.

Even if I had been my normal, fully functioning self, nothing could have prepared me for the struggle.

Our baby would only sleep while swaddled, but he also hated being swaddled.

He constantly fought the blanket, worked his little arms free, and then startled himself awake. Every nap and bedtime felt like a battle.

Like many sleep-deprived parents, we started searching for solutions.

We tried larger muslin blankets for a more secure wrap. We tried a Woombie that had been recommended to us. We tried Velcro swaddles we had received as gifts.

Nothing worked.

Our baby clearly wanted that snug, secure feeling, but he also wanted his hands up near his face.

Then we discovered Love to Dream.

Why the Love to Dream Swaddle UP Worked for Us

The Love to Dream Swaddle UP has a unique arms-up design that allows babies to sleep in a more natural position while still feeling secure and contained.

Instead of forcing your baby's arms down by their sides, the swaddle allows them to keep their hands near their face while still preventing the startle reflex from constantly waking them.

For our little one, it was exactly what he needed.

The design gently hugs your baby's body while giving their hips and legs plenty of room to move comfortably. The result is a secure swaddle that still feels flexible and natural.

It also features a convenient two-way zipper, making middle-of-the-night diaper changes quick and easy. The fabric is made from soft cotton, which we found breathable and comfortable for our little one.

Our darling little angel looked like a happy starfish. So cute!

Most importantly, he stopped fighting his swaddle.

For the first time, he seemed comfortable. He felt secure enough to settle down and sleep for hours at a time, which was a huge relief for all of us. At night, he typically only wakes when we wake him for feeds.

We Continued Sizing Up

We started with the newborn size, and he loved it.

When he outgrew that size, we immediately purchased the next one because the design continued to work so well for him.

Now we've moved on to the Love to Dream Transition Bag. Since he's getting bigger and will eventually begin rolling, we wanted to be prepared for that next stage.

One feature I really appreciate is the zip-off arm design.

You can start with both arms swaddled, then transition to one arm out, and eventually both arms out when your baby is developmentally ready. It makes the transition from swaddle to sleep sack seem much less intimidating.

Choosing the Right TOG

Another thing I appreciate about Love to Dream is that they offer multiple TOG options.

TOG refers to how warm or thick the fabric is. This allows parents to choose a swaddle based on their climate, the season, and the temperature of their home.

Whether you live somewhere warm year-round or need something cozier for cooler months, there is usually an option that fits your needs.

Final Thoughts

Every baby is different, and what works for one may not work for another.

But if you're struggling because your newborn hates traditional swaddles, constantly breaks free from blankets, or seems determined to keep their hands near their face, the Love to Dream Swaddle UP may be worth trying.

For our family, it was genuinely a lifesaver.

It gave our baby the secure, hugged feeling he wanted while allowing him to sleep in a position that felt comfortable and natural.

Sometimes the products that make the biggest difference are the ones you never knew you needed.

This was definitely one of those products for us.
