Tarte Tartelette XL Tubing Mascara Review: Beautiful Lashes and Easy Removal

I've been using tarte's tartelette XL tubing mascara for several months now, and I love pretty much everything about it. The application, how it wears, and especially how easily it comes off.

I first bought the smaller tube to try it out, and after using it for about three months, I liked it enough to purchase the full size.

The Wand Isn't What I Usually Go For

I normally prefer mascara wands that are large, full, and have lots of bristles. When I first saw the wand on the tartelette XL, I wasn't sure I'd like it.

Turns out, I really do.

It separates and fans out my lashes beautifully without making them clump together. I can apply a little for a more natural look or build it up when I want something more noticeable. Even with additional coats, my lashes don't end up looking overly dramatic or unnatural, which is exactly how I like them.

I've also found that the mascara continues to apply just as nicely as I work my way through the tube. It doesn't become increasingly difficult to work with over time, which I've experienced with other mascaras.

One thing I should mention is that I rarely judge a mascara right after opening it. I've noticed that almost every mascara I've used has a bit of a break-in period. For the first few days, the application can seem a little off, and then after a few uses, I start liking it much more.

I don't know exactly why that happens, but it's been consistent enough that I always give a new mascara a few days before deciding how I feel about it.

It Doesn't Flake, Even When I Sleep in It

I've never had this mascara flake on me.

And I've put that to the test more than I probably should have.

I've fallen asleep wearing it plenty of times and woken up the next morning with my lashes still looking perfectly fine.

I know sleeping in mascara isn't a great habit, but with a new baby, sometimes I fall asleep before I ever get around to washing my face. It happens!

I'm certainly not recommending sleeping in your makeup, but I think it says something about how well this mascara stays in place.

Removing It Is My Favorite Part

If there's one thing that really makes me love this mascara, it's how easily it comes off.

Tartelette XL is a tubing mascara, so instead of dissolving and smearing like traditional mascara, it comes off in little pieces.

And it's even easier than the product images make it look.

I just use a little water and gently rub my lashes between my fingers. The mascara slides right off in small pieces that I can rinse or brush away.

That's it.

No makeup remover, no scrubbing, and no tugging at my lashes.

What I especially love is that it doesn't leave black smears beneath my eyes during removal. I've used plenty of mascaras that seem to spread all over my under-eye area when I try to wash them off. Then I have to spend extra time cleaning up the mess.

With this one, the little pieces just come away from my lashes. It's quick, clean, and incredibly easy.

For a mascara that stays on so well, I love that taking it off requires almost no effort.

The quick and easy removal is really what made me want to share this mascara on Hearth & Harmony. As a busy mom, I appreciate anything that makes my daily routine a little easier, and being able to remove my mascara in seconds without a mess is one of those little things that makes a huge difference.

I've enjoyed this mascara so much that I'm interested in trying more makeup from tarte. If their other products work as well for me as this one has, I'd love to explore more!

How Long Did the Smaller Tube Last?

I purchased the half-size tartelette XL tubing mascara in April for $15.

I don't wear mascara every day, especially since I work from home. Most often, I put it on when I have meetings or simply feel like wearing makeup.

With that kind of use, the smaller tube lasted me approximately three months.

I was pretty happy with that, considering how small it is.

By September, I knew I wanted another tube and decided to purchase the full size for $28.

I don't usually feel the need to buy a larger version of something just because I enjoyed trying it, but in this case, I knew I wanted to keep using the mascara.

Would I Buy It Again?

Absolutely.

I love how the wand separates my lashes, how naturally I can build up the mascara, and that I've never had an issue with flaking.

But being able to remove it with just water, without smearing mascara all over my face, is probably what I appreciate most.

It's a mascara that looks good, wears well, and doesn't make me work to take it off.

And considering I already went back for the full-size tube, I think that answers whether I'd buy it again!
